MY PHILOSOPHY:

I believe that:

  • All students have dignity and worth.

  • All students are unique and contribute to the school community through their varied social, ethnic, cultural, racial, and academic backgrounds, experiences, and strengths and should be respected and appreciated for who they are.

  • All students have the capacity to learn and successful learning requires the active participation, mutual respect individual accountability of students, teachers, staff, parents, guardians and community members.

  • All students have the right to a safe, mutually respectful, healthy, developmentally appropriate learning environment.

  • All students have the ability to self-advocate, exhibit personal responsibility, and strive for accountability.

  • That home, school, and community share responsibility for the education and success of students.

  • I believe that school counseling programs should be student-centered.

  • I believe that school counseling programs should be comprehensive, systemic, data-driven programs that equitably meet the academic, career, and personal/social needs of all students and is based on the ASCA National Model.

  • I believe that school counseling programs should provide students with an education that extends beyond the classroom and allows students to develop lifelong skills that can assist them in the pursuit of their life goals while developing positive character traits and skills to become productive contributing citizens and lifelong learners.

  • I believe that school counseling programs must transform and evolve to meet the needs of students.

  • I believe that professional school counselors should be self-reflective practitioners who engage in ongoing professional development to ensure that they are relevant.

  • I believe that professional school counselors will abide by the professional school counseling ethics presented in ASCA Ethical Standards for School Counselors.

  • I believe that professional school counselors should advocate for their students.

  • I believe that professional school counselors should collaborate with teachers, families, and the community.
